Baby #3 Update

Today we heard the heartbeat! What a most beautiful sound!!!! The heartbeat was 160 bpm - pretty much right on target with the boys. Not saying I think it's a boy...just simply saying. We also say Baby Battermann! We had the boys with us, so I was talking to the boys and showing them the screen. I wanted them to do another ultrasound after the boys left the room so I could just sit and stare at the screen and not worry about somebody touching a button or breaking a machine. :) The boys thought hearing the heartbeat was cool. I forgot to record it, so I hope to at the next appointment.

Though the doctor's office took FOREVER to get us through the appointment...which wasn't easy to accept seeing as how they knew we had our 2 boys with us...it all went well. They recognized me and they were glad to see the boys that I had spent so much time seeing them for. :) When the nurse was going through the entire book of things I should know...I kept saying 'yeah, I got it'....but I think she has some sort of obligation to still hit all the key points.

Anyway, at this stage, I have gained a firm 5 pounds. I typically (haha...typically, like this happens all the time...though it is becoming a bit of a habit) gain quite a bit in the first trimester. I don't know how girls only gain the 3-5 pounds recommended. However, I tend to not gain as much towards the end, whereas it is usually the opposite.

At this point, I just started with nausea....around 7.5/8 weeks. It is not as bad, meaning I haven't thrown up yet, and I am still able to function. It seems to come later in the morning and in the evening a bit. Regardless, we are taking a trip to Orlando right after the holidays, so the doctor gave me a prescription for the miracle drug, Zofran. I look forward to its magic...during our vacation, which include driving to Florida. :)

This pregnancy is proving to be different so far. Not only the nausea (I am still able to brush my teeth without a problem...it was very difficult with my last 2 pregnancies), but I am SO hungry! I've heard of pregnant people being always hungry...but with my boys, I didn't feel that way so much (even though I gained quite a bit of weight). So who knows.....could it be that for me a different pregnancy means a different gender? I guess we'll find out soon enough...

Oh and the due date is July 28th, but I'll be doing a planned c-section. I'm thinking the 21st sounds like a pretty awesome golden birthday! :)

A great appointment...yay!!!

I'm Pregnant...with #3!!!

Can you believe it....I'm pregnant!!!! Battermann Baby #3 is on its way! Can you believe it? I am going to be a mother of 3! Oh, I'm so excited! Sunday, November 20th around 7am that fun little stick said Pregnant...and the word 'not' did NOT precede it!

John and I said awhile back that we wanted to try in the Fall of 2011. A couple months ago, I brought it up and at first John said that it was too soon. So I asked when he thought a better time would be and he couldn't think of one...so we decided that we'd try that month. It turns out that month, my ovulation and period were messed up, so while I did take a test and it was negative, I don't really count that month because we didn't try from the beginning and I didn't figure when things were happening. So we tried the next month. I peed on ovulation sticks, we cornered the 'window'....but it didn't work. I think because I had already technically had one negative test, I had started mentally preparing myself that perhaps we'd have to go to the freezer and do a frozen cycle of IVF. John and I had agreed that we would try for at least 4 months before we started the IVF process. If it was God's plan for us to conceive naturally, this would allow that much of a window. If not, we have two healthy boys and would start IVF (though I was twitching just thinking of having to rely so heavily on my friends for the gazillion appointments that comes with IVF). Anywho, I had a negative result. Let's move on and try again.

I typically get an ovulation pain, and this particular month I got it a few days early and it last several days...I didn't know what was up with that, but why not. Then when I was typically supposed to ovulate, John was all sick with a nasty cold and was working crazy late. It also happened to be my birthday, so that was a bummer. I counted the month as no good...already prepped myself for a negative and another month of trying. Saturday came....the day. I had not had any spotting, which I normally get....but who knows...my period had been slightly irregular the past few months. I also didn't feel any cramping, which I normally get a bit. That morning we were forced to re-evaluate our insurance plan. We've been on BCBS HMO for many years and we've loved it (despite what people think about HMO's). We found out that morning that there was NO IVF coverage! This would mean that if God's plan was for us to do IVF, that we'd not only have a gazillion appointments, we'd have to pay out of pocket. Lovely....we shook it off and said that we'd cross that bridge when we got there. We went downtown for the lighting parade...I thought for sure I'd get it there...nope.

Sunday morning I woke up and somehow remembered to go grab that last stick. I peed on it and put it back in the wrapper. While brushing my teeth and telling myself 'it's negative, it's negative' (so much for positive thinking, but when you've been denied as many times as I have, you have to prep for the worst and then you're extra thrilled when it is positive). I peeked at the stick and saw pregnant, so I whipped the stick out of the wrapper and nowhere did I see the word 'Not'. WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! While I would have loved to have given the news to John in some cutesy way....I said screw that....screamed 'I'M PREGNANT!!!" and ran onto the bed (where both kids were watching a movie and John was sleeping soundly) and jumped up on the bed and kept saying it! (I was still brushing my teeth mind you!). John kept saying 'what....what....uh...uh...'). I looked back at the stick and shoved it in his face. I told the kids...they just wanted me to get out of the way of their viewing of the movie.

Wow! The morning was just a bunch of 'wow' from me and 'uh, uh' from John. Don't get me wrong, he was very happy and smiled...it was just a shock - especially knowing how the month and ovulation had panned out. He even asked 'when did this happen??'.

Of course that day I talked to my sister 3 long conversations-worth...and I kept it in like a champ!

So Monday, I did my last day of physical therapy (for my horrible right knee....PT wasn't working and they said I needed an MRI...can't really do that when pregnant so I cancelled the rest of the appointments). Conveniently, my OB office shares the same building and was 10 steps away. So across the aisle I went and scheduled my first ultrasound for Monday, December 19th. I was so excited! I then proceeded to tell them that I needed a progesterone test...or just the drugs. I told them I had to do progesterone for my other pregnancies, so I imagine I would for this one as well. They put in the order and the next morning I got my blood taken. My level was at 11....they like it to be above 15, so yes, progesterone supplements were ordered and I got them the next day. I was glad I was so on top of it and took care of it right away!

So there you have it! We are very excited and cannot wait to meet him/her!

Rainy Day

Today the boys and I had to run some errands...and it was a bit drizzly outside. So what a perfect day for them to wear their rain boots and raincoats? I also donned my brand new rainboots as well. :) We were quite the trio! At every stop we made, the boys got complimented on their outfits. :)

This picture was taken while walking into Target. The lady behind them had just got done oo'ing and ah'ing over them. :) It was a feel good moment. While Logan looks like he's walking awkwardly, I had just told them to hold hands, but that was not on Carter's agenda...Logan was reaching out....Carter was gunning for the automatic doors.

Magnet Game

As a recommendation of a fun game for 3 year olds, my friend Jen recommended "Magnetic Match Rings". I got it for Logan for his birthday and as we've been slowly trying out his gifts, we busted this one out yesterday. He loves it! He went into his room today and came out with the baggie (It is nice that it is not a huge box) and said "Look what I found". Here are some pictures of this cool, educational game.

Putting on the pieces...with full concentration...

Yay! I did it!

All done! "Mom, give me high five"

After he would finish and give the high five, he'd say 'Let's do one more'. He ended up doing 5 puzzles! He would make sure I was watching him though. If my head was turned, he'd say - "are you watching me Mom?" Once I looked over and said yes, he'd say, 'Okay, let's do it!'

And not to be left out....there's my other little cutie pie!

Logan's 3 year well visit

After rescheduling a few times, on Monday the 14th we had Logan's 3 year well visit. To my surprise, although it makes sense...they put Logan on the 'big' scale to measure height and weight! And they took his blood pressure the big way too! So naturally, if you know me AT ALL....I took a picture! This is a milestone, people!

My little....I mean, BIG boy weighed in at 33.4 pounds
65th percentile (which is up from the last percentile)

Next she measured his height. At first she said 37.5. I knew he was 37 something last year, so we remeasured and had Logan stand up taller. 37.75.....okay....I knew he outgrew all of his 2T pants, so I really feel he grew more than just a half inch, but whatever. The doctor did say that they notice a drop in percentage when they go from measuring laying down to standing up. Logan always laid nice and still and we were able to get a pretty accurate height and now when he was standing it was not super duper straight, but fairly. That all being said....
50th percentile for height. Yup...you read that right! I was darn near shocked as he's always been in the 90th. Granted, he is still taller than what John was at that age, so it's not as if I think he'll be a short guy by any means, it was just a surprising number.

Then she checked his blood pressure. He did so well sitting still; he was so interested in what she was doing. I forget the number....but he's all good! :)

We went into the room and she asked if Logan 'knew' his shapes or if he was learning them. I gladly said that he knew them. Then she asked if he knew or was learning his colors. I did say 'learning'...he is getting there, but I can't say that he can identify them correctly if asked. So we will start working harder on that. I always try to be descriptive as I can- "green car" "red couch" "blue rocket", but we will kick it up a notch.

Dr. M. came in and Logan said Hello Dr. M. Very cute...and the doc liked it. :) He checked everything else (eyes, ears, nose, mouth, legs, etc.) and all is well. He asked how he was doing with fruits and vegetables. I said that he is good with fruits, but needs coaxing on vegetables and that we are using a consequence type method (can't get a snack or more milk until you eat them). He said he used that too. He also said that they used to serve vegetables first and once those were gone, then the other meat and starches came to the table. I had recently thought about trying that as well...so we just may have to go there. I really want to make it a positive experience, but sometimes it is hard especially when they are being ridiculous and I know they need to eat the good stuff. I do add purees to as much as I can (pancakes, homemade pizza sauce, muffins/breads, etc.) so I know they are getting their veggies, but I still want them to like the real stuff. Anywho, I digress.

I did ask if he needed to know if he knew his alphabet and he said nope, that is a 4 year milestone. Okay....whew! Not to say that we aren't going to work on it, but it takes pressure off that I was feeling. I know every kid learns at a different pace and some excel in some things and others they do better over time...so it was just nice to hear. Logan is a happy, healthy kid and that is pretty much all I can ask for. Facebook especially...you have to keep that in mind. People brag about their kids constantly...which is fine...it is there for you to post whatever and have freedom of speech...but sometimes it can seem like a competition. Logan plays well by himself and with others, so, so far, so good!

Logan did get the flu shot. Honestly, after I left the office, I wanted to go undo it. The doctor said he is all caught up on his vaccines, so it is just the flu shot...making it sound like it was required. And I know a lot of kids do get it, but I have only gotten it once (when I was pregnant nonetheless...darn Swine Flu and your scare tactics)....and John hadn't consistently received it....I don't know. I know Logan will be in preschool next year, but I will throw caution to the wind. If he gets more than a cold often, I will do the shot going forward. If not, I'm going to stick to my guns.

So Logan got the shot and didn't cry a BIT! He had a disgruntled look, but he was dry-eyed. :) They asked if since we were there, if I wanted to get Carter the shot...so I agreed to that too. (again, my regret came after I left the office) They quickly made us the appointment and came back in and gave him the shot. Would you believe that little bugger didn't cry a smidge either?!? He had a look of what the hell just happened, but not a peep! My tough little guys!!!!

They both got stickers for being so awesome! So there you have it...my Logan is as healthy as can be and checks out perfectly!

Rocketship bathroom

For Logan's birthday he was bound to get a lot of toys and some clothes...which he did and he loves them all! My Mom decided to go a different route after a discussion she and I had recently. She decided to make the boys a fun bathroom. And Logan's (& Carter's) favorite thing right now is...Rocketships!!! My parents came over this past weekend and Logan was so excited to have more presents to open! My Mom made it all because apparently rocketship bathroom accessories are not in stores right now. So she got all navy/white/silver bathroom accessories and either drew on them or added decals; or sewed. :) I love creativity! If you can't find it...make it!

His eyes lit up when he saw the huge silver rocketship on the navy shower curtain. He helped hang the shower curtain. Then more presents included a decorated garbage can, which he thinks is soooo cool; a toothbrush holder (which I gave them new toothbrushes too shaped kinda like a rocket); and stickers and decals to decorate the mirror, door, cabinets and bathtub with! He also got glow in the dark stars to put on the ceiling and this awesome Moon, that works by remote control. He is to match the moon each evening. He loves it! He helped put all the stickers on, stars on the ceiling, he'd stop to play with the astronaut bath toys....then come back and help. He really was with it the whole time! Here are a few pics:

His awesome Rocketship Shower Curtain; above the curtain there is a large rocket decal and to the right-top you can see the Moon that changes by remote.

Here are the mirrors all decorated and his toothbrush holder

And of course the toilet all decorated, with the decor'd garbage can on its side

In this frame is the Planet Song from Blues Clues

He also got some spaceship guys to play with in the tub....his new favorite bath toys.

Even the other day, he walked into our room and on his way back looked in the bathroom and said "Whoa....look at that rocket!" Then he proceeded to point out all the cool things about his cool new bathroom. :)

All Sports Class

So it was like some form of excitement hit me with Logan turning 3! He is able to do all these classes by himself...and gets it more than in his 'younger baby and toddler years'...haha!

There were many options for classes for Logan. Instead of a straight soccer or straight t-ball class, I opted for the All Sport class. The class is 6 weeks long and they do a new sport every week. His first week he did soccer, this past week was t-ball and this coming week is football.

The first class the coaches explained that parents and little siblings can stay to watch if we want. I want! I want! So I prayed that Carter was going to behave. With it being Logan's first time, I wanted to watch how it all went down and how much Logan actually enjoyed it. So far Carter has been very good. Between the snacks I pack, the bleachers he can climb or the fun iphone...he has remained occupied. He only cried once when the kids were all told to go get a soccer ball....he loves soccer and wanted to get one too. :(

Logan is in a class with 3 & 4 year olds. You can tell that the other boys had done some kind of class before or perhaps because they were mostly 3.5-4 they paid a bit more attention. For example, soccer was a bit of a crazy experience. Logan was distracted by the new surroundings and all... He always seemed to be a step behind. And at one point, he told Coach Drew that he'd be back in 2 minutes and he kicked the ball across the gym. Oh dear.... I felt like Coach Drew's patience was wearing a bit thin as other kids also randomly took off. It is quite humorous. I later learned that Coach Drew's wife had a baby that weekend, so perhaps he was a bit distracted and on edge...after all, these kids are....3 & 4 year old boys. Stuff happens. :) A Mom did kindly approach me after class and asked his age...I said he turns 3 the next day. She said not to worry that the kids are almost always like 'this' at first. She said her kid didn't even participate half the time, so she said I should be thankful that at least Logan was outgoing and doing activities, even though it wasn't always what the others were doing. It was nice of her to say something and it did make me feel better. Being the first time in this...you just never know.

T-ball was a better experience. Logan still had moments, but it didn't appear to be more than other kids. Maybe he was getting used to the surroundings; maybe it was because I talked to him about listening several times before we walked it; maybe he enjoys t-ball more; maybe it was fluke....who knows!

Here are some pictures from t-ball. I have videos too, but I'll have to see about loading those. I have to say, this class was hilarious to watch!

Circle time before playing...telling the kids about the sport and the rules

They all took turns running bases...first they stopped after each base, then they got to do the whole thing by themselves....so cute! At first almost every kid ran right past first base.

Logan running to first base - so cute! He did run past the base and looked over, waved and said 'Hi Mom!'. I darn near cried it was so cute!

Running to Home Base!

Next up was batting practice - oh funny! So Logan got the most turns...and here's why. The first couple turns he hit the tee...the ball went places, but not too far since he didn't actually hit the ball. So they told him to aim at the ball; stood behind him to help, but eventually let him swing on his own. They said 'Okay, BIG swing, right at the ball'. Well....he wound up then in UBER-slow motion, he took the bat to the ball and ever so slightly tapped it! It was hilarious!!! All the parents turned and looked at me as they were laughing...they wanted to make sure I saw it. Oh yes...I have it on video too!!! See...these are the many reasons why I don't want to miss the classes. It is so flippin adorable!

My good boy Carter playing quietly on the bleachers. I'm still shocked he remains mostly quiet.

It was Logan's turn in the outfield. Yeah, what else should a boy do while waiting? Put the mitt on his head!! Good thing we weren't in an actual field or he would probably be picking flowers!

The ball was hit in his direction while he was looking around all distracted-like. The coach told Logan to go get the ball...he was so excited. He ran out there and grabbed the ball. I love this picture...it is on my screensaver on my phone...

...then he had to throw the ball in - he made a pretty good throw.

I can't wait to see the excitement that football brings!

Swimming Lessons

Logan began swimming lessons a week before his 3rd birthday. When I signed him up, I thought it was with a parent. I guess I felt that maybe he'd be more comfortable or that it was a pre-req. It turns out that there was a misprint in the hard-copy book. I looked online the day before the class and saw the correction that it was without a parent. I did a mini-panic. What if it was required to be with a parent first? What if he didn't like this stranger? What if he didn't trust them in the water or freaked out?

He does well with being in the water, but doesn't like to be splashed or go under the water just yet. He was not very comfortable with putting his face in either. He has started enjoying baths again, but not when he and Carter are in it together. They do fine for awhile, but Carter inevitable splashes and Logan gets mad. When Logan is by himself in the tub, he just plays and plays, sitting in the same spot. He has learned to accept the scrubdown...but doesn't enjoy it.

So when we walked in to the 'holding area', I saw that his 'teacher', Miss Allison, only had 2 students - Logan and another boy. I immediately felt relief that he wasn't going to be in a very large class. He would get quite a bit of one-0n-one attention. We met Miss Allison and I told her of my concern (looking back it is a very first time mom kind of worry to voice...whateve!!!). She said that we would see how he did and assess after the class.

She talked to him for a few minutes while waiting for the other boy to show up. During this discussion, Logan noticed the Dragon water slide and he wanted to try it. She told him they would go on in after class. When they realized the other little boy was late, they entered the water. He held her hand and they walked right into the 2 feet of water, with no problem-o. I proudly sat on the sidelines and watched every move. I was so glad that Logan trusted her and had no problem leaving my side. About 10 minutes into the class the other boy showed up and I could tell he had taken lessons before and was very comfortable in the water, so that would be good for Logan to see. They took turns using noodles, tubes and other fancy swimming contraptions to swim out and come back with Miss Allison. He did great waiting on the side while she was out with the other boy.

There did come a point with 10 minutes left in class that I saw him pointing and telling her something. I later asked what he was saying. I thought maybe she wanted him to do something, like put his face in the water and he didn't want to. Nope, he was ready to go on the Dragon slide and made sure she knew it. After she finished her lesson, she did all them to each take a turn on the slide and he was a happy boy.

The next week, was Logan's birthday and Daddy and Carter came with us. At first I was in the swimming area watching Logan while John played with Carter, then we switched places so that John could have a turn watching Logan in action. Carter and I wandered halls and went up and down stairs - he had a very fun time exploring. John loved watching Logan swimming. John is not an avid swimmer himself so he is glad that Logan is getting involved in swimming lessons early on so he will be comfortable in the water.

The third week (this past Saturday) Logan had a substitute teacher, Miss Stephanie. I was glad that he was not bothered with this switch. She did things a little differently, which was cool. She did not hold his hand into the water and while he walked slower (that is just his nature...he is so his Dad!), but he made it over there by himself. She did not give him a toy to play with at the beginning. This kept him wandering away from the sides when she was 'out' with the other little boy. While he was making me nervous (even though there is another lifeguard standing right there to jump in at any time...if he were to trip and not get back up right away in the 2 feet of water, this mama would likely still run like mad and jump in the water....) I was glad that he was comfortable. :) She also took them into the 3 foot section and they took turns jumping into her arms and spinning around. He also did a small stunt of floating on his back and putting part of his face in the water.

With only 3 lessons, Logan now lays both on his tummy and his back during bathtime! He also asks me to watch him put his chin, nose and forehead in the water. He is so much more comfortable. And randomly when sitting he will practice swimming strokes and says 'look I'm swimming!'. He still does not like Carter splashing him, but hey...that may never change. If you are in the bathtub to play with your toys and some little brother keeps splashing you...well that can be annoying. :)

So yay for great success with swim lessons thus far!!!!! Here are a couple pictures from this past week:

Evil Dr. Porkchop

While getting ready this morning, Carter took it upon himself to go through my wallet...in doing so, he opened up the change section. Logan heard the clanks and said I want to put it in my Piggy Bank! He grabbed a handful and ran into his room saying Evil Dr. Porkchop! (For those that don't know the reference, in Toy Story that is what they called the Piggy Bank in one scene...John started it with the boys and it is sticking apparently!) So I cleaned out my drawer where I dump my change and sent the boys to their rooms to fill their piggy banks!

You can see in this picture Logan was attempting to 'play' with the pig by holding its ears. It is much too heavy though with all those coins...time to head to the bank!!!

Mickey Decor

Time has escaped me lately! Where have I been you wonder? In Mickey Mouse land...that's where! I will make a separate post about my sweet Logan's 3rd birthday party, but I will talk about my homemade decorations here...since that has been my life lately. We decided to have the party at our house...so I needed to make the place look as festive as can be....however, I wanted to be frugal at the same time. And well...if you know me, you know I love crafting!!!.

When Logan had decided on a Mickey Mouse theme (I kept giving him 2 options and it was a Cars party for a while...until the MM idea came along. Thinking back, if given the option of a rocket party, I wondered if he would've changed....he is so into rockets lately!) I immediately started looking at party decoration blogs for MM themed items to see what people did. I got a lot of great ideas and it helped me to think of some my own as well. I made the decor during naptimes, awake times and after bed times. Logan helped on quite a few items, so I was glad that he had a hand in decorating for his own party. The Dollar Tree was my best friend in coordinating all my decorations...I only bought a few things at Party City...the rest was at the Dollar Tree....where everything is actually a dollar or less.

The first thing I made was a Mickey wreath. At the dollar tree, I bought 2 small woven wood wreaths and one big one - I spray painted them black and attached the small ones as ears with black pipe cleaners. I made a sign that said "Welcome to Logan's Clubhouse" and hung it behind the wreath on my front door (which just happens to be red-ish.)...yay! My main decor was pretty much wrapping my current wall art in plain white paper and then putting some sort of Mickey decor on them. On my huge painting above my couch, became a giant Mickey head...there was still a lot of white paper showing. While the look would have been fine and nice and clean, my friend Jen had an excellent idea! She suggested for Logan to paint in the white part. So one day when Carter slept longer than Logan, Logan and I busted out the red and yellow paint. Logan is one to want to cover the area, so I had to help him move around the painting. I held his hand once and dragged the paintbrush, the rest...he did on his own. I just kept turning the painting and would suggest areas for him to paint. Then we took a circle sponge brush and I showed him how to 'dot' the paper. He even said 'dot, dot, dot' as he painted...very cute. Towards the end, he started brushing with the 'dot' paintbrush...and then we called it done. I threw his initials LWB in the bottom corner and voila - it looked great! I was very proud of him. I actually don't want to take it down cuz it is his work of art....however, I don't love Mickey Mouse that much to want a permanent decor. Although...I did just get the idea to buy plain canvases when they are on sale and have the kids paint them and use them as artwork...oh, I love it!!!! See how this blog just helped me with a good idea?

Other pictures I covered was above the goodie bag table. In plain white paper, I had a red huge Mickey Mouse head and wrote 'Goodie Bags! Thank you for coming, friends!'. Above a game, I covered 2 paintings. One said "Mickey"; one said "Buckets". I used a stencil for these letters and colored them in black, yellow, red and left some white. I added a picture of Logan with Mickey & Minnie and a glittered Mickey (which I'll get to later). I covered a kitchen painting in white and did block letters (all free-hand, which later I kind of wish I would have done stencils, but whateve...) and wrote "Hot Dog, Hot Dog, Hot Diggety Dog". Our dinner theme was hot dogs, so it was perfect! I unframed a picture and wrapped it (so it still had a framed look) and did block letters "Meeska Mooska Mickey Mouse" and in each letter I did a different design (polka dots, strips, squiggles, etc.).

Other decorations....I found Mickey Mouse frisbees for $1 and hung them with string and put them in various places....I found $1 MM puzzles and glued them to construction paper and attached string and hung them around on the surround sound speakers....I hung a professional picture of Logan that he just had taken in his Mickey Mouse halloween costume in the kitchen.....I made Toodles and attached him to a giant bubble wand (I didn't use him like I thought I would, but at least he made a good decoration)....for our Mickey Buckets game, Logan and I painted the board red and put yellow polka-dots...we did red bags for goodie bags and cut out black mickey heads with red inner circles with their names on it....and my friend Jen (thanks Jen!!) helped me make a generic banner which we hung in our great room. Then there were the glitter Mickey's. I bought styrofoam circles at the dollar tree. Each Mickey was about .75 to make. I painted each Mickey...Logan helped paint. Then I spread glue on them and shook my glitter shakers to my hearts content and covered the sucker. Some Mickey's were hung free, a couple had sticks glued on the back and either went in plants or in styrofoam blocks as centerpieces. I had to shellac the glitter Mickey's so that I didn't have glitter everywhere.

My friend Julie is an artist. So right away I asked her if she would do a 4 foot Mickey Mouse cut out. She did a fantastic job - all the kids loved him!

For the food, I bought red buckets, white buckets, red bowls, white bowls. On the red buckets, I put two white circles to mimic Mickey's pants; the white buckets, I drew a Mickey head and colored it in.

Now are you ready for my over-the-edge crazy decoration??? Trust me...I was made fun of a lot and rightfully so.... The kleenex box I had was a bunch of fun colors...but not Mickey Mouse colors. I whipped out my red and black felt and my trusty hot glue gun and yes.....I covered my tissue box!! John walked in when I was doing this and asked what I was doing....I said that I was on overload and perhaps took things a bit too far, but I just kept going.

So that is that....after listing it all it really is a lot of decorations. I had fun doing it and would do it all again in a heartbeat. With every decoration that I hung, Logan's eyes lit up. (I was so thankful that he did not get sick of Mickey Mouse!!)

Halloween Activities

Logan had decided that he wanted to be Mickey Mouse for Halloween, which worked out perfectly for me since we had a hand-me-down costume that my Mom made for my nephew 11 years ago. He was 4 at the time and my other nephew who wore it last year was 4, so I thought it might be big. The jacket and head fit him perfectly. My SIL couldn't find the pants, so my Mom just whipped up a new pair. I affixed two white felt circles on his red pants and he was set to go!

Since Carter was Donald Duck (another hand me down) last year, he couldn't duplicate...but I do love a good theme, so I had my Mom make a Pluto costume. She got tan fleece and used felt sticky letters to spell PLUTO across his chest. She made an adorable hat with black, thin, floppy ears. I affixed a green collar around the top to be Pluto's collar. He was an adorable puppy!

Only one minor problem was that anytime the boys put their costumes on, Logan wanted to be Pluto. He was there the night my Mom made it and watched every step and pretended to be a dog the whole night. Thankfully I was able to reason with the almost 3 year old every time he had to wear it...which was a lot within a few days.

Thursday, we had a small Halloween party with some of the moms from our Moms group. The boys wore their outfits for almost the entire time. We managed to get a few cute pictures.

Friday morning we surprised Miss Wendy at the library. It was the day for the storytime kids to dress up...so we crashed on a great day. She nearly cried when she saw them...not only does she love my kids, but she is Disney obsessed!!! So Mickey Mouse and Pluto were perfect costumes to surprise her with! Friday afternoon we had safety trick or treat. In the small pretend town where kids learn to obey stop signs and crossing streets in a little community, each company/police/fire dept./library picks a house and hands out candy. It is a great trick or treating experience done in 10 minutes or less! Then they played at the playground.....and then we headed to the picture studio to get their professional pictures done - Logan did fantastic as always...such a ham for the camera! Carter did pretty well but needed extra encouragement and smarties to keep going. It was a LONG day!

Saturday at lunchtime we had a halloween birthday party for some of our friends...so on went the costumes again! Logan won for Coolest Costume and Carter won for Funniest Costume. Yay!!! That evening we went down to WillisTower and enjoyed a Monster Mash party on the 66th floor. It was very fun. The kids had fun and eventually warmed up to the haunted maze, they watched some Scooby Doo, played games and enjoyed some fun food.

Sunday....was a day of rest!

Monday...Halloween.....here we go! John got home early and we woke the boys up from their nap so we could trick or treat during daylight and while it wasn't too busy out. We went with just our little family...next year it'd be fun to go with some friends. We had a couple of cranky boys that he slid into their costumes. They warmed up once we busted out the wagon. They walked up to the first house (figures that the first house would have lots of spooky decorations, but they weren't too scared). They waited quite a bit of time after ringing the doorbell...to the point that Carter gave up and went back to the wagon...but Logan stuck it out! He said Trick or Treat and said Thank you. Very cute! We went around the block and they both got the hang of it and ran up to houses and then hopped back in the wagon. Then Logan didn't want to ride in the wagon, he wanted to pull the wagon. Then Carter bonked his head on the wagon and wanted Daddy to carry him. Shortly after Logan declared that he was done. I even bribed him by saying he could get more candy...nope, he was done. Carter still did a few houses as we made our way back. With some people sitting outside, I rolled Logan up to them. People still got a kick out of them in their costumes. Then soon after Logan wanted Daddy to carry him. So glad I brought the wagon...to hold nothing. We circled back to our house. Logan stripped off his costume as he came up the driveway.

They dumped out their candy and each got to eat a little bit before dinner.

Logan got to pick out 10 pieces to keep. The rest of the candy went in our bowl to give to others. At the end of the night, we still had some leftover. My friend Hannah's brother-in-law is in Afghanistan serving....so she collected 20 pounds of leftover candy from our friends and shipped it to him.

It was a great Halloween and a great first time trick or treating in our neighborhood!!!

Pumpkin Patch

Today my parents were coming up to drop off the boys Halloween costumes (my Mom made them; more on that later) and we decided that since it was such gorgeous weather (68 and sunny) that we'd hit the pumpkin patch. We have an awesome one only 12 minutes away.

After we got out of the car, Logan saw the big pumpkin that is on top of the building and screamed 'there's the pumpkin; it's so big; let's go get it!' It was so funny...and his excitement continued. Oh I love this age! When Logan saw all the pumpkins he went from pumpkin to pumpkin so super excited! We also had him stand by some cool character cutouts. He liked them all! (John had already disappeared to get some food and took Carter, so we didn't get him with the cutouts).

The boys checked out the pumpkins, climbed on the huge wooden tractor and firetruck. They ran through the pumpkin tunnel several times. Carter just ran from thing to thing - he just kept going. Then the ponies were spotted. Logan told Grandma - I need a ticket! You can tell he's been to a few carnivals. So Papa got both boys a ticket and then guys all stood in line. It wasn't too bad of a line, maybe 15 minutes and the boys did well. At first Carter didn't want to get on the pony, but my Dad plopped him on and he was okay. Logan has done this time and time again and loved it. They both would wave when they went by. It was cute. They then proceeded to climb on the train and run through the pumpkin again. It is just fun to watch them both running around and playing. For the last year and a half Carter has spent most of his time in the stroller. We honestly didn't even need to bring it in.

After they were done playing, we left. We didn't visit the expensive part *the corn maize and animal land. So it was good, cheap fun! The boys had a blast and we all enjoyed watching them have a blast. We didn't get any pumpkins because they are more expensive there. We will likely get one at a local store and carve it one of these nights. Yay!

We came home and my Mom made a couple adjustments to the costumes while I whipped up a homemade pizza. The boys tried on their costumes - oh they look soooo cute!! Logan is Mickey Mouse and Carter is Pluto. However.....Logan really loves putting on Pluto and pretending to be a dog. He crawls, barks, begs for a treat...it is pretty funny! I kept reminding him that during trick or treat and at parties....he is Mickey Mouse!

It was just a great family day! We took some great pics; I will post some hopefully tomorrow!

Daddy can fix it

Tonight John opted to put Carter to bed and I, Logan (we switch every few nights). Part of Logan's routine as of late is getting to play some preschool computer games on the iPad for 10 minutes before bed. After he plays the games, we read a book...sometimes a book on the iPad, sometimes a paper book. Either way he helps turn the pages and pays attention. Well tonight was an iPad book. I clicked on the app button and it didn't do anything. I tried again and other buttons...nothing. I closed all the apps that were running and then clicked off. Turned it back on, nothing. Logan said 'we should go get Daddy to fix it'. I said hey, hey, now wait a minute...Mommy can do it!!! He had even started climbing out of bed! Little Stinker! I closed the iPad cover and then said 'Hocus Pocus" (just on a whim)...and then when I opened it up, it actually worked!

I just thought it was so funny that he was so ready to get his Daddy to fix it. Now he's the stinker!!

John's Birthday

As a continuation to John's birthday, when I arrived home from our downtown surprise, John's parents came down in the afternoon. Dorene had just had her chemo treatment the day before, so we were amazed and touched that they came down while she wasn't feeling so great.

The boys were super excited to see Gram and Grandpa. We ate dinner in that night; I tried to replicate Olive Garden's Stuffed Chicken Marsala as that is John's favorite dish...and I have to say it was pretty delicious! The night before I also had an idea to make an ice cream cake. John loves ice cream cake (I'm not a huge fan) so I thought instead of buying one from Dairy Queen I would try to make one. My friend Jen had just made one so I took some tips from her on what she'd do different and such. It was very rich, but oh so good. John loved it, so my mission was accomplished. I put oreos and chocolate chips in the food processor and made that my bottom layer. Froze it. Added a layer of his favorite flavor, peanut butter fudge. Froze it. Added a layer of fudge topping and more crumb topping. Froze it. More ice cream. Last layer of crumbs. Froze it. Again, rich, but delicious. Next time, I think I would do a layer of vanilla ice cream as well to off-set the chocolatelyness....and to show the layers a bit better. I made this 'cake' pretty quickly and in a foil pan...next time I think I would make the ice cream layers a bit thicker. At this point I was just trying to cram it all in.

John got some great gifts including several Milwaukee Tools. It was a great birthday!

The next morning John had to go to work, but his parents stuck around for the morning. It was wonderful! They got to spend more time with the kids...and I got to do some running around and finish some projects. While they were playing with the kids, they also helped out. Bill raked leaves and fixed our mailbox while Logan helped him. Dorene folded some laundry and played with Carter. It was nice having them visit us. The boys were sad to see them go.

Happy Birthday Surprise

This past Tuesday was John's birthday. He didn't take the super early train so that the boys and I could have breakfast with him. I made him his favorite and pretty much the only breakfast item he eats....eggs benedict. We had a lovely family breakfast then we dropped daddy off at the train station.

Then we quick ran to Target to get some ingredients for his homemade ice cream cake I made him...ran home, dropped off the stuff and added another layer of the cake then went to a playdate. We only stayed at the playdate for 45 minutes as we had a surprise up our sleeve....we were surprising Daddy downtown for lunch!

Monday, I emailed a friend/co-worker of his to schedule John for lunch then to meet me at the bottom of Willis Tower at Noon. We got to the train station only to find out that they were redoing one of the parking lots so the parking was nuts! {Having debated which stroller to bring (double or umbrella), I opted for umbrella. While having both kids contained would have been nice....the double is too cumbersome to fold down and carry up the stairs of a timed train, with two toddlers in tow.} But here we were cutting it close to the train arriving and we had to walk....FAR....and FAST! Logan was such a trooper and ran pretty much the entire way and we made it with a few minutes to spare. Whew...so I snagged a picture to make it look like we had been there forever. :)

We boarded the train with ease and Logan raced to find us a seat. I put the stroller across our seat and they treated it like a gate - fantastic! They did very well and were amazed at everything...while our conductor was lame, Logan thought he was so cool. :) After 10-ish minutes, wanting to not get to the point of scrambling, I played Despicable Me on my iPhone (next time I will hold out as I don't want to rely on technology). The boys were hooked and Carter fell asleep for about 40 minutes. We pulled into the station and exited smoothly as well, though Carter did have to wake up in the process. Our train was delayed 10 minutes due to construction so we needed to rush.

With Carter in the stroller we went up two sets of escalators - Logan did well getting on and off without much assistance from me as I had the stroller situation to deal with. We walked quickly with Logan holding on to the stroller or walking by me. It was very busy walking across the river and I was uber on guard...but all was well. John and his friend were outside waiting for us instead of vice versa and Daddy was surprised. While his reaction was less to be desired, he was excited to see us. We decided to eat at Willis Tower. The boys were good and John's friend pulled a gold coin out of their ear....so cool. :) Then we went up to visit Daddy's area. He isn't very high up at the tower, but the boys still found it exciting to look out the window.

They also found it pretty fun "playing Daddy" in his cube.

Daddy had a meeting at 1, so we had to cut our visit short. We headed back to the train...and I had to pee like crazy! Unfortunately, I didn't fit in the regular stalls with both kids and the stroller and one handicap stall had a lady talking on her cell phone....yeah, that took forever. I wheeled the boys to the other restroom nearby and would you believe that they were closed for cleaning!?!? I wanted to scream....but I just held it and we boarded the train *after a quick stop to Mrs. Fields for some cookies to reward the boys for being so good. On the ride home, Logan was playing some games on my phone and fell asleep...so Carter and I entertained each other. Then we started on our super long trek back to our van. Logan had to be woken up and then had to walk all that way...but again....a real trooper.

It was a successful surprise. Next time we'll fill Daddy in so we can work around meetings more. {I just knew if I told John he'd be all worried about me on the train alone with the boys...and the stroller situation - I wanted to avoid extra worry.}

Happy Birthday, John!

Short stories

Yesterday Carter woke up in his typical 'I woke up too early and am not getting my way'. He wanted a glass of milk and I wanted him to have water. He screamed, threw the cup, ran in the other room....screamed some more. All out ridiculous. Typically he comes around and then drinks the water...or concedes to whatever the tantrum is about. As Carter is screaming by the couch, Logan went over to him and told him it was okay and that Mommy wants him to drink water and not to cry. Logan came running back to me and asked where the tissues were. I showed him. He plucked a tissue; paused to fold it a certain way, then ran over to Carter. He asked him to blow his nose and Carter did. Then he wiped his tears, told him it was okay and said 'now, let's go!'. And then Carter was okay. Oh, it was soooo adorable!!!

From adorable to kinda funny in an attitude kind of way...

At dinner tonight, Logan pooped and told me that he pooped and pointed to his butt. Okay...since John had a not so fabulous day at work, I offered (even though I was still eating) to change his diaper. Logan hopped down and then John kindly offered to change him. Logan said No Daddy, I want MOMMY to change my diaper. He then proceeded to stand up tall, cross his arms and raise his head as if he had put his foot down and this the way it was going to be. I said really?? Daddy actually offers to change a poopy diaper and the kid is going to reject him? Man...John must secretly be training them....

Logan's current funny phrase is 'You're a stinker!' and will do it at the right times....if I make a funny face at him or tickle him.

Carter's current phrase is 'pull, pull'. He wants to pull you to where he wants you to go. The refrigerator, outside, upstairs, living room, etc. Cute....but it gets old. Trust me.

No more raw carrots

So I recall posting last year when Logan wasn't quite 2. I gave him a raw carrot stick. He seemed to like it. He chewed it up and out it came.

Let us fast forward a year-ish later to today while at a playdate. Raw carrots were served. I didn't even see Logan take one....not that I would have necessarily stopped him, but I would've made him stand on the hardwood floors and not near any *brand new* furniture. We were the last ones to leave and were helping clean up while my friend Tara and I were chatting away. We both just happened to look over and out of the corner of my eye I saw it and Tara said 'he's throwing up'. Yup...on their BRAND NEW couch...seriously, just purchased 2 weeks ago when they moved in.

As soon as I saw it was carrot, I was relieved....at least he wasn't 'sick'. He said 'I spilled'. Yup, sure did. I made sure he was okay, made apology #1 of a million for my kid having puked on their brand new couch and took Logan to the bathroom. He was wearing a zip-up sweatshirt and only got it on that...and the couch...brand new, mind you... So I put his sweatshirt in a plastic bag, rinsed off his mouth and washed his hands....while making further apologies for the couch. Tara was very nice about it. I went back and wiped the couch down then proceeded to pick the tiny pieces of carrot out of the plush area rug (brand new also). She got some cleaner for the couch. She did tell me that they purchased the protection plan for it. So if any stain, including bodily fluids, doesn't come out, they will come replace the cushion for up to 7 years! That is a long warranty. I did feel better. Did I mention that it is a very light tan/ivory couch? Granted, there were no stains from the carrot. And thank goodness that his breakfast had digested fully...so it was just carrot and water.

My friend Kathy said 'could you imagine if he had red juice?'. I darn near hyperventilated with that statement...that would've been a nightmare and I would've cried on Tara's behalf. As Tara said, it was out of my control...and it is not like he took a marker to it...it was a 'bodily' function. Nonetheless, I believe some cookies and a homemade craft just very well may end up on her doorstep. :) And needless to say, raw carrots will just not happen in this household. He eats cooked ones fine, so I can't believe that he's allergic...I just think the texture does not sit well with him.

If you read this post around meal time....I send my apologies. :)

Quarry Qwest Pictures

(The bad thing about blogspot is...once you upload your pictures it is a pain to move them around and change the size. So the pictures are in a crazy order until I have time to come back and fix it....which, let's face it...it's not likely to happen.) The highlights of the photos are riding a school bus for the first time; playing with cousins, aunts, and gram and rocks while standing in line; riding the airlift; riding the crane; shooting rocks in a lake via a sling; checking out construction trucks, getting a cool toy....and Carter sleeping on the way in on the bus...and on the way out in Mommy & Daddy's arms. A stroller would have been heavenly. :)

Carter was hitching a ride on Alex's shoulders...and loving it!
