Peek-A-Boo

Today Logan found joy in a new game - Peek-A-Boo. I put a small blanket (unused burpcloth if you will...) over his head and ask "where's Logan?"and then he pulls it off and smiles. It is even funnier that as soon as I grab that cloth to put it over his head again, he laughs in excitement. When the cloth is on his head though you would swear he didn't like it because he wiggles a lot more and catches his breath a few times....sometimes he gets all worked up and tips over -so we play this game on the soft bed. He really likes this game! It is so much fun to watch him 'like' certain things more and more!

I love this boy! :)

Stomach Sleeper

Well, Logan has always been a back sleeper - hands in the air in the field goal position and all. Once when he was around a month old or so he took a few naps on his tummy, but other than that he has not cared for it - and quite frankly John and I liked it that way.

In the last month every time I put Logan down for a nap/bed he immediately rolled to his side - okay, no biggie. However, the last few days he has taken it to the extreme - he rolls over onto his tummy. During this process he usually loses his pacifier and then gets all ticked off. As soon as I put his pacifier back in though, he falls asleep. John and I are not huge fans of this new sleep position as we'll notice on the video monitor that he sometimes puts his head straight down (not leaning towards one side or the other). He puts his head on his arms. We can still hear him breathing just fine....it just makes us nervous. We have gone in and turned his head to one side or flipped him onto his back.

I know a lot of kids do sleep on their stomachs and I do know that the risk of SIDS has decreased with his age....and we will get used to it. But for now we still remain a bit nervous.

An upside to his new sleeping position is that when he is waking up he will get into a crawl position - on all 4's and move back and forth while staying still...this is wonderful! He does this in his bed or on our bed. However, when on any other surface he only gets in that position every so often. He usually ends up scooting backwards. :)

Before we know it, he'll be crawling...ah! Oh boy, how things will change then!

Paige's Surfing Experience

Last Spring when we went down to Charleston, John tried surfing.  I couldn't as I was 16 wks. pregnant - not a good idea.

So this time, I tried surfing.  As the water was still pretty chilly, I put on a wetsuit and headed out to the ocean.  The waves weren't spectacular for surfing, but being a beginner, I didn't need huge waves.  I never stood up as that lesson is not for extreme beginners....but I did indeed catch one great wave while on my belly on the surfboard.  Naturally as John was taking care of Logan, he did not catch this experience on film, however here are a couple of pictures of me beforehand.  :)

Yes, I am being a bit silly in this pose, however only those at the beach could see how I 'really' look in a wetsuit (they are VERY clingy)...this pose was designed to NOT show every nook and cranny!!!!

Vacation Pictures

Please understand that between my cousin's husband, Skip (he has a really good camera - I'm sure you will be able to tell which pics are from his camera) and I we took 754 pictures!!!  So the trip was definitely not without documentation.  Naturally, most of the pictures center around our kids - as it should....who cares what the adults look like!

While it was difficult to choose just a 'few' pictures to post from all the fun we had, I will do my best!

Mother's Day

This past Sunday I celebrated my first Mother's Day with Logan (outside of my belly).  We had a wonderful day.  I love being a Mom - Logan makes it so easy!

John helped Logan make me breakfast in bed and gave me some little gifts.  After Church, Logan cemented his handprints and footprints for me then we went for a bike ride (with the new bike cart I got at a garage sale).  We just relaxed and I loved every second with my little man.  He was adorable as always and very well-behaved.

6 Months Old

Logan is 6 months old.

He sits up perfectly.  He is starting to scoot backwards.  He always smiles for the camera.  He laughs when you tickle his collarbone or his thigh.  He thinks his hands are the most amazing thing and still looks at them with such curiousity.  He holds his own bottle after you help him place his hands on it.  He can drink out of a sippy cup.  He had his first taste of pancakes and loves them.  He is not a picky eater when it comes to baby food.  He is still an amazing sleeper - at least 10 hours at night - even while teething!  I can put him to bed while he's still awake and about more than half of the time he doesn't cry a bit.  He loves to go on walks, which we do often and he usually falls asleep in his stroller.  He loves his dog, Buddy - if Buddy is on the move, 9 times out of 10 Logan will watch what he's doing.  He loves it when his parents act goofy - which is often.  He loves to watch people clap and gets excited when we play Pat-a-Cake.

Hello hands and feet!

The face....

Hehe....this is Logan's 'poop face'.  He sits, stares and his face turns a lovely shade of red.

2 Teeth

I was finally able to capture a picture of his first 2 teeth, albeit he was none too happy about the picture and it is a close up!  The one on our left (his right) came in on his 6 month birthday and the other bottom tooth came in 3 days later - crazy!  

I'm not sure how well you can see the picture on the blog, but there are 2 'white caps' on the bottom.  :)

2nd Tooth

I just felt Logan's gums to see how much the other tooth was growing and....there is a 2ND tooth on the bottom....so now he has 2 bottom teeth. They are not showing enough to get a good picture just yet...but soon.

6 Months!

Yesterday was Logan's 6 month birthday!!!!! I cannot believe how much time has just FLOWN by!! I feel like just yesterday he was 2 weeks old and I thought it would be forever until he was 6 months old and now the day has come and gone.

Yesterday we started out the morning eating breakfast. Afterwards I thought I'd check his gums for teeth (as I've been doing a lot lately since he's been drooling a lot and a little fussy on some nights) and low and behold....THERE WAS A TOOTH!!! I was so excited I actually shed a tear! It is on the bottom right side (left if you are looking at him). It just broke through, so while I tried to take a picture, I was unsuccessful (I will try again with John's assistance). It'll be so cute to see him with a tooth.

Today he had his 6 month pictures taken - they all turned out so cute. He smiled perfectly for every picture...what a ham! It was difficult to choose, but I somehow managed. The photography studio asked me to sign a model release form for one of the pictures because they liked it so much. He was in a diaper on his stomach with a blanket (that my Nana knitted) over his head so he is peeking out - it is very cute.

Today he also had his 6 month checkup. Here are his stats:

19 pounds 2 ounces (75th percentile)
29 inches (off the charts)
head: 17.25 inches (50th percentile)

My little boy is so growing so big....ah, I can't take it. I look at him in his crib and he is just so long! I was surprised that he didn't double his weight by 6 months (which would be 20 pounds), however 19.2 is pretty close!

He did get 2 shots the first of which he didn't feel a thing; the second of which he cried for about 8 seconds. What a trooper!

They asked all the developmental questions - can he pick things up in a clawing motion off the floor - Yes; can he pass things from hand to hand - Yes; can he sit with support - Yes, he can sit without support! The doctor was impressed! She also said that we could start Logan on a sippy cup...so we will give that a try tomorrow!

I know he has so much growing yet to do....but, I feel like he's done so much already. I still look at him and say "I can't believe he's our baby!". It still just feels so surreal to have him in our lives. We love him so much!

Vacation

Last week we returned from a wonderful vacation on an island off the coast of South Carolina. My cousin Justin and his wife Jen and their 4 month old son, Dylan, live nearby (as does my other cousin Lauren and her boyfriend, Adam). My cousin, Meghan, her husband, Skip, and their 11 month old son, Miles, drove down from PA and we flew in the same morning. We have all been married about 7-8 years and all got pregnant within a year of each other...so we thought it would be fun to get the boys together. And yes, it was fun!

Meghan, Skip, Miles, John, Logan and I shared a villa and the 'local cousins' drove in each day. It worked out great! We spent our days relaxing, going to the beach (or pool on super windy days), walking on the trails, riding bikes and cooking delicious meals! Between the 3 boys, one was either eating, crying or sleeping...too funny. :) We had excellent weather everyday - it was fantastic!

It was amazing to see the difference that a couple months makes. On this trip, Miles turned 11 months, Logan was 5 and a half months and Dylan was 3 and a half months old. Miles took a few steps by himself on the trip (very exciting!) and was otherwise, walking around tables or crawling here and there and was 'talking' up a storm! Logan was sitting by himself all proud and just observing what Miles was doing. Last time he saw Miles...the very next day he sat up all by himself! We wondered if after this trip he was going to start crawling, but no such luck. Logan did have a few more whiney periods than usual, particularly the last night - ugh, it was awful. We are pretty sure that he was having some teething pain because it was very out of character for him. Dylan was very quiet and slept a lot. When he was awake, he would flash a few cute smiles, but other than that, he left the other tricks up to Logan and particularly Miles. We are planning to make this a yearly event and can't wait to see how the boys all change throughout the years. Next year at this time they will all be walking, so we will all be much more on guard to see what they are getting in to!

Shrug

Logan's latest thing is to shrug his shoulders. He does it kind of randomly, but when he does it once, he just keeps shrugging....it is cute!
